Happy Birthday Brigitte Bardot.

At the height of her career, Brigitte Bardot was equalled only by Marilyn Monroe as an international sex symbol and the epitome of beauty. For Americans, she seemingly appeared out of nowhere in the 1956 film And God Created Woman. And for two decades, she dominated any screen she was on. But by 1973, she finished her final two movies and went into retirement, leaving behind two decades of work that defined what sexy is.

Here, photos of the one and only Brigitte Bardot in her Heyday

Call it the Paris of the West, the City That Knows How, or even (shudder) Frisco — San Francisco is the city on the bay that no visitor ever forgets, whether it’s because of the sourdough bread, the heart-on-its-shoulder political activism, or that big ol’ red bridge. But the San Francisco you may know today wasn’t always the iconic city of the liberal literati, mighty spans, and Gold Rush memorabilia.
